Chief of Staff – OAR Foundation (Part Time Volunteer)

Job Description:

The Chief of Staff at the OAR Foundation plays a key leadership role in overseeing daily operations, strategic planning, and organizational effectiveness. This position serves as a trusted advisor to the executive team, ensuring that all programs, initiatives, and administrative functions align with the foundation’s mission to support veterans affected by moral injury through service, advocacy, and peer support. The Chief of Staff acts as a bridge between leadership, staff, volunteers, and external partners, driving efficiency and impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Executive Director and leadership team to develop and execute strategic initiatives.

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring organizational effectiveness and efficiency.

  • Serve as a key liaison between departments, fostering collaboration and communication.

  • Support the management of humanitarian programs, disaster relief efforts, and advocacy initiatives.

  • Monitor and assess program outcomes, ensuring alignment with OAR’s mission and goals.

  • Lead organizational planning, including budgeting, policy development, and risk management.

  • Represent OAR in meetings with stakeholders, partners, and donors.

  • Drive volunteer engagement and ensure strong coordination across teams.

  • Assist with fundraising strategies, grant writing, and donor relations.

  • Support veteran-focused initiatives, including peer support, moral injury research, and historical preservation efforts.

Requirements

  • Military experience (preferred but not required) or a strong understanding of veteran issues.

  • Proven leadership and management experience in nonprofit, military, government, or corporate settings.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.

  • Experience in strategic planning, operations, and team coordination.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to build relationships with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders.

  • Passion for veteran advocacy, humanitarian efforts, and moral injury recovery.

  • Experience in fundraising, grant writing, or donor engagement is a plus.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment with adaptability and resilience.
