Writer – OAR Foundation (Part Time Volunteer)

Job Description:

The Writer at the OAR Foundation will create compelling content that communicates the organization’s mission, programs, and impact to a variety of audiences. This role involves writing articles, newsletters, social media posts, donor communications, and other materials that highlight the foundation’s work in supporting veterans affected by moral injury, humanitarian initiatives, and advocacy. The Writer will collaborate closely with the communications and marketing team to ensure that all content is clear, engaging, and aligned with OAR’s mission and values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Write, edit, and proofread a wide range of content, including articles, blog posts, newsletters, social media copy, and donor communications.

  • Craft compelling stories about OAR’s programs, events, and the impact of veteran service in humanitarian efforts.

  • Work with leadership and program teams to gather information and translate it into engaging, accessible content.

  • Develop content for fundraising campaigns to engage and inspire donors, supporters, and partners.

  • Ensure that all content reflects OAR’s mission and maintains a consistent voice and tone.

  • Assist in the creation of press releases and other media outreach materials to promote OAR’s initiatives.

  • Manage content schedules and collaborate with the marketing team to ensure timely publication across platforms.

  • Contribute to the creation of annual reports, informational brochures, and other printed materials.

  • Support the preservation of history by documenting and sharing the stories of veterans, particularly those involved in the Kabul evacuation and OAR’s humanitarian missions.

  • Optimize content for different platforms, including websites and social media, to reach a wider audience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or a related field (preferred).

  • Proven experience as a writer, content creator, or journalist (at least 2-3 years).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write clearly, concisely, and creatively.

  • Strong editing and proofreading skills, with attention to detail.

  • Experience with digital content creation, including social media, blogs, and websites.

  • Ability to tell compelling stories that resonate with diverse audiences, particularly veterans, donors, and supporters.

  • Familiarity with SEO best practices and content optimization for web platforms.

  • Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

  • A deep passion for veteran advocacy and understanding of the issues surrounding moral injury, trauma, and recovery.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, collaborating with various departments.

This role is ideal for a creative storyteller who is passionate about veteran issues and humanitarian work, eager to contribute to a nonprofit dedicated to healing and advocating for those who have served.
