Director of Humanitarian Initiatives – OAR Foundation (Part Time Volunteer)

Job Description:

The Director of Humanitarian Initiatives at OAR Foundation will lead and oversee all aspects of the organization’s humanitarian efforts, ensuring impactful and efficient delivery of services to communities in need. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing various projects that directly support veterans and those affected by crises. The Director will work closely with the leadership team to align initiatives with the foundation’s mission, focusing on creating lasting change through service and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a strategic plan for humanitarian initiatives, including disaster relief, rebuilding efforts, and community-based support programs.

  • Lead, manage, and coordinate humanitarian projects and ensure their successful implementation.

  • Oversee the operational and logistical aspects of disaster relief and recovery efforts.

  • Collaborate with local, national, and international partners, including other nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and community leaders, to maximize impact.

  • Build and maintain relationships with volunteers, donors, and partners to ensure program sustainability.

  • Monitor program performance, conduct evaluations, and provide regular updates to leadership and stakeholders.

  • Ensure programs are aligned with OAR’s values, including service, resilience, and community, with a focus on healing veterans affected by moral injury.

  • Develop and maintain a budget for humanitarian initiatives, ensuring resources are used efficiently and effectively.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to staff and volunteers engaged in humanitarian work.

  • Advocate for the needs of veterans and underserved communities in the context of crisis and recovery.

  • Ensure compliance with regulations, safety protocols, and ethical standards in all program activities.

Requirements

  • Experience in humanitarian work, disaster relief, or community development (at least 5 years).

  • Leadership and management experience, including overseeing teams and volunteers.

  • Strong understanding of veteran issues and the impact of moral injury, trauma, and recovery.

  • Proven ability to plan, execute, and manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders.

  • Strong problem-solving and crisis management skills, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building relationships with diverse groups.

  • Ability to work in high-pressure, fast-paced environments, with resilience and flexibility.

  • Experience with fundraising and donor relations to support program growth and sustainability.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Passion for serving veterans and communities affected by disaster and crisis.
