Human Resources Director – OAR Foundation (Part Time Volunteer)

Job Description:

The Human Resources Director at the OAR Foundation will be responsible for overseeing all HR functions, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compensation, benefits, and compliance. This role requires strategic leadership to ensure the foundation attracts, develops, and retains top talent, while fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture. The HR Director will work closely with senior leadership to support organizational growth, staff development, and the foundation’s mission of supporting veterans, advocating for moral injury recovery, and leading humanitarian initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all HR functions, including recruitment, employee onboarding, performance evaluations, and training.

  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with legal requirements and organizational goals.

  • Oversee staff recruitment and retention efforts, ensuring the foundation attracts and retains qualified candidates.

  • Provide guidance and support to employees and management on HR-related issues, including conflict resolution, performance management, and employee relations.

  • Develop and maintain compensation and benefits programs, ensuring they are competitive and meet the needs of employees.

  • Lead the design and implementation of employee development and training programs that foster skill development, leadership, and career growth.

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations, including labor laws, safety standards, and other legal requirements.

  • Foster a positive workplace culture by promoting inclusivity, diversity, and employee well-being.

  • Conduct regular employee surveys to assess satisfaction, engagement, and areas for improvement.

  • Provide strategic HR support to senior leadership to align HR practices with the foundation’s goals and values.

  • Manage HR reporting and data, ensuring accurate recordkeeping and analysis for decision-making.

  • Lead and manage employee recognition programs, creating a sense of belonging and appreciation for staff contributions.

  • Ensure the foundation adheres to confidentiality protocols, managing sensitive employee information with discretion and integrity.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of HR practices, including recruitment, employee relations, compensation, benefits, and performance management.

  • Strong understanding of employment laws and regulations, ensuring compliance across all HR practices.

  • Proven ability to foster a positive organizational culture, promote employee engagement, and resolve conflicts.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with employees at all levels.

  • Experience with HR software and data management systems (HRIS).

  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle sensitive situations and make decisions that align with organizational values.

  • Strategic thinking and the ability to align HR practices with the organization’s mission and long-term goals.

  • A commitment to the mission of veteran advocacy and supporting those affected by moral injury.
